2023-2024 Bible Reading Description

 

Though there are many Bible reading schedules available to the Church, each year Westgate provides a unique schedule for those who either want to follow along with the church family in their reading or who are not sure where to read on a particular day. For 2023 and 2024 we are reading through what is probably the most common and well-used schedule by the Church, written in 1842 by a young pastor for his church family. Robert Murray M’Cheyne desired that his people would all “feed in the same portion of the green pasture at the same time.” His reading calendar was laid out in such a way that the congregant would read through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice in one year. Here at Westgate we have expanded this same reading schedule over 2 years. For those more intimately familiar with M’Cheyne’s reading schedule, we are using his “family” reading schedule for 2023 and his “secret” (think private/personal) reading schedule for 2024. This has us reading the New Testament and Psalms once each year and the Old Testament once over 2 years. May the Lord use this schedule to, among other things, “enable us to speak more suitably to them on the Lord’s Day; and both pastor and elders will be able to drop a word of light and comfort in visiting from house to house, which will be more readily responded to.” Below is the second-year schedule for our use in 2024.
